Writing a launch page around one core feature

A launch page works best when it explains one feature and the first steps to using it. This guide shows how to structure that page for a new software product.

01

Choose the single feature to lead

Start by naming the one job the product does better than a spreadsheet or manual routine. Write it as a sentence a stranger could repeat: who it helps, what it removes, and what they get instead. Worked example: a release checking tool for small engineering teams that scans a branch before merge and posts a pass or fail summary in chat. Resist listing secondary features above it. If you need the word and more than once in the headline, you are probably describing two products, and the page will read as unfocused to a first-time visitor.

Lay out onboarding in three steps — DozevA useful path from inputto understanding

02

Lay out onboarding in three steps

Show readers exactly how they begin. Keep to three steps, each with a verb and a visible result. In the release tool example: connect a repository, choose which checks to run, then open a test branch and read the first summary. Add a short note on the time each step takes, only if you have measured it yourself. This section turns interest into action because it removes the fear of a long setup. Use plain screenshots or text snippets rather than abstract diagrams, so the reader can picture their own first session.

Close with one clear next action — DozevA useful path from inputto understanding

03

Close with one clear next action

End the page with a single call to action that matches the onboarding promise, such as start with one repository or join the early access list. Under it, answer the two or three questions a cautious buyer would ask: what access the tool needs, how to leave, and where to get help. Avoid unsupported claims about speed or savings. In the example, a short sample summary of a passing and a failing check does more persuasion than adjectives, because it shows the feature working and invites the visitor to try it.
